YMCA Sheridan Street Lincoln

Project

Carbon Reduction Scheme YMCA Sheridan Street, Lincoln

Project brief

To Introduce low carbon heating and hot water to 16 self-contained apartments.

JL Phillips’ Solution

Installation of two Mitsubishi CAHV Air Source Heat Pumps to provide both heating and hot Water Via individual Heat Interface Units

The initial brief from the client was to supply and install a low temperature external heat pump linked to an individual internal heat pump and integrated hot water cylinder per apartment. J L Phillips suggested that a more efficient method of providing heat and hot water would be to use external heat pumps with internal individual Heat Interface Units. These Mibec HIU’s work similarly to a Combi type boiler in that they transfer heat from the Heat Pumps directly to the heat emitters within the apartments and provide hot water via a heat exchanger within the HIU. Heat meters in each HIU remotely monitor the heat and hot water consumption used within each apartment.

J L Phillips experience with HIU implementation and Heat Pump technology convinced the client to take this route to installation. Monitoring of the individual apartments also proved to be a useful consideration.

Client feedback

The installation was commissioned over the winter period.

After initial set ups and balancing of the flow rates through the Mibec HIU’s. All the apartments were achieving their target temperature for heating.

Hot water delivery was a consistent 45 degrees as expected. Without any drop in flow or temperature even when all HIU’s were asking for a demand.

The monitoring system by Insta was installed ready to record heat usage and tenant charging if required.

Acoustic panels were installed around the heat pumps to successfully allay concerns from the residents.

A successful implementation of Heat Pump technology within a multiple occupancy residence.
